Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) scooped Two (2) prestigious awards in the recently concluded Meru National Agricultural Society of Kenya Show which was held from 1st – 4th June, 2022. The Show whose theme was “Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade” was officially opened by the Meru County Governor, Hon Kiraitu Murungi.
KeMU show-cased various innovations and projects which emphasized the role of the university in promoting Innovation and Technology in agriculture. KeMU Scooped the first position in the innovation and invention category as well as the best university stand in Hospitality and catering.
Kenya Methodist University Vice Chancellor, Prof. David Gichoya was the chief guest during the closing ceremony on 4th June 2022. In his keynote address to the Sponsors, exhibitors and the guests, Prof. Gichoya acknowledged the ASK’s effort in providing an opportunity for farmers from across the country to learn new and advanced farming technology.
As food security continue to be a major concern for most countries, Kenya included, he emphasized the significance of institutions of higher learning in identifying and addressing the primary challenges that the agricultural sector is facing currently. Prof. Gichoya assured the public on KeMU’s commitment to embracing and advancing techniques that stimulate agricultural growth, trade and industrialization.
As the university exhibited in the annual event and fronted by the best students’ brains in the country, the students’ innovators club had an opportunity to flex their biceps in showcasing their novel ideas in embracing technology to revolutionize the agricultural sector in the country. The students’ innovators seized the focus of the guests who came to witness the many projects on display from the departments of Agriculture, Hospitality, Pure and Applied sciences, Pharmacy, clinical medicine, medicine, medical lab and nursing.
