DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

This Diploma program is a middle level training in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. It provides for those who would not otherwise have qualified
for the Degree program. But after qualification with a minimum credit pass, the candidate may qualify for the 5-year degree course. The
Diploma graduate has an opportunity to enter the Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree Program provided he/she fulfills the admission requirements.

Medical Laboratory Science is a branch of medicine concerned with performance of the laboratory and analysis used in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases
and the mainteinance of good health. A medical laboratory technologist uses chemical, physical and biological laboratory processes to examine specimens to
identify disease, pathological conditions or pathogens. A medical laboratory technologist is also involved in research to nd suitable and reliable laboratory tests
which can be used for future diagnosis. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science at KeMU is designed to produce gradutes who will value human life
and use the knowledge in laboratory medicine to protect and maintain human health.

The Clinical Medicine, Surgery and Community Health programme is guided by the philosophical foundations and use of appropriate technology in design, delivery and review of
courses; these are focused on service, facilitation of community empowerment, promotion of fairness, natural justice and maintenance of good neighborliness.
Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Surgery and Community Health (DMSCH) is aimed at training the clinical Officers for public and private practice, participation in NGO programs and self employment in addition to forming the basis for academic and professional progression locally and internationally.
The goal is to prepare adequate numbers of clinical officers who are competent and community oriented in line with Kenya National Health Policy Framework (2006), the National Health
Sector Strategic Plan II (2007-2012) and in accordance with Kenya’s Vision 2030 road map to health.

The Course is intended to prepare students for entry into relevant department programs, by ensuring that they possess the necessary knowledge, values, skills and competencies to pursue further career.  The course is designed around principles of experiential learning. As the students study different topics, they will be connecting theory with personal experience through discussion, case analysis and reflection. The program focuses more on reasoning, understanding and application rather than on memory and mere acquisition of knowledge.
