World Tourism Day
On 27th September 2018, the Department of Hospitality and Tourism joined the World to celebrate the United Nations World Tourism Day. The theme of the celebrations this year was “Tourism and the Digital Transformation’’ This was achieved through the courtesy of the Meru County Government, Department of Tourism, and Trade & Co-operatives. This year’s celebrations were held in Meru National Park where activities included Ameru Cultural performances, Game-Drive in the “Complete Wilderness” and address by the CEC, Tourism among other tourism stakeholders. The purpose of this day was to foster awareness among the community on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. The event sought to highlight the contribution the tourism sector can make to our economy and lay emphasis to tourism’s contribution to the economic sectors especially in the promotion of environmental sustainability, green growth and climate change through its relationship with energy and sustainable tourism use.
